Harry Passes Away

WADDLE, HARRY LLOYD of Port Dover, on Monday, December 4, 2006, peacefully at Norfolk General Hospital in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his wife of 52 years Margaret Cameron (1915-1992). He is survived by daughters Mary (Robert) Morrison of Port Dover and Jane (Doug) Lindsay of Mississauga. Grandfather of five, Jeff Morrison of Oakville, Derek (Sarah) Morrison and their children Ben and Luke of Simcoe, Jennifer Lindsay of Ottawa, Ryan (Jessica) Lindsay of St. Catharines and Scott Lindsay (partner Amanda) of England. Harry was born February 28, 1915 in the family home in Port Dover to Edmond R. Waddle and Daisy A. (Kindree) Waddle. He attended Port Dover High School and joined the Canadian Air Force, where he joked that he 'flew a desk' at Jarvis #1 Bombing and Gunnery School. Following the war, he became partners in his father's store and eventually became the sole owner of Waddle's Variety Department Store Limited. He retired in 1980 and remained in the family home on Chapman St. until 2004. Harry's hobby of photography was quickly acknowledged world wide, and his work won awards from galleries of many countries. His photo of daughter Mary was the APS 1952 Picture of the Year. With his best known picture 'Lily Nectar' he was acclaimed as a Five Star Exhibitor in 1954. He achieved other accomplishments while enjoying his life-long pastime of boating. He earned the status of Navigator in Power Squadron, and taught many boating courses. His passion was a yearly family boating cruise. His retirement hobby was that of genealogy and he produced a book tracing the Waddle heritage in Canada. He was a dedicated member of Grace United Church, and served as Elder and Trustee for many years. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 6, 2006 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530). Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Church, Chapman and St. George Sts., Port Dover. The Reverend Murray Rounding and The Reverend Frank Walker officiating. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. For those wishing, donations to Grace United Church would be greatly appreciated.
